Sweet Nourishment
We are told that a dog can go 20 days without food, a turtle 500 days, and some fish as many as 1000 days. One can draw an interesting analogy from these facts. There are some "turtle" Christians who go 500 days without partaking of the real meat of the Word, and even a few of the "fish" variety who go 1000 days without eating the spiritual bread of the Bible.
As believers we need to feed upon the Word of God daily (Acts 17:11). We must do more than simply read its pages. We should study it, meditate upon it, and appropriate its truths to our lives (1 Timothy 4:12-16; 2 Timothy 2:15). God wants us to put forth consecrated effort in searching the Scriptures, for only then will we fully assimilate its sweet nourishment and sound doctrine!
Someone has written, "The reason so many people get very little from their Bible study is similar to the reason maple syrup is so high-priced. Many gallons of sap have to be evaporated to make one gallon of syrup, and this has to be further boiled down if one wishes to make a single cake of maple sugar! So, too, if you are going to gain a knowledge of the Word of God, you cannot be lazy. There must be gallons of devotional study evaporated with prayerful obedience to the Word before there can be true growth in the knowledge of the Scriptures. But when the end product is reached, it will be sweeter than honey."
Does your regular diet include such "sweet nourishment"? If not, begin today to really study God's precious Word!
