I recently saw a bumper sticker that said, "God's retirement program is out of this world." Every believer longingly awaits the time depicted by the Psalmist in Psalm 16:11 — "Thou wilt show me the path of life: in Thy presence is fulness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." Until then, there is really no retirement for Christians who are lifetime "ambassadors for Christ."

In this issue we have sought to present a Scriptural perspective for senior citizens and those who have retired from secular work. The widely accepted philosophy of the world for seniors is self-indulgence. As a result, many of today's seniors are overwhelmed with feelings of anxiety, uselessness and fear, leading to alcoholism and other disorders.

God's purpose for senior Christians is outlined in Titus where instruction is given to maintain a spiritual example (Titus 2:1-5) and good works (Titus 3:8). The senior years are wonderful years to serve the Lord Jesus.

We share excerpts from a letter received from a 72-year old retired disabled man from Anderson, SC: "I go to a youth treatment center. This is a place where they put boys and girls who break the law. They won't let me preach or pray, but I can give out gospel tracts. I also go to the city jail, three nursing homes and from house to house and leave tracts. I desire to put gospel materials in every home in my home city before I die. This gives me all I can do. I was very tired from today's work, but I can still pray. Please pray for me and this work."
