Without Sin

Christ is unique. He is THE Son of God. It is important for us to recognize that Christ never sinned. Also, because He was God He could not sin for God cannot sin. If God could sin, He would not be God. Isn't it marvelous that when Christ came, He was God made manifest in the flesh? Why is that important? I'll tell you why. Because as God He could not sin. Therefore when He went to the cross and died (the laws of God say a sin requires a death) He paid the debt of sin. He paid my debt because He had no sin of His own. But you see, God cannot die and that's why He became man—so that He could die in the sinner's place.

It is marvelous to see what the Bible has to say about the character of Christ. Luke 1:35 says, "that Holy Thing which shall be born of thee." This is said to Mary. Now, I know once in a while a parent has a child born, and they really begin to think it's an angel. But just wait until the child is about two years old and they will find out whatever it is God gave them, it wasn't an angel! But the Bible says, "that holy thing." Something could not be called "holy" unless it had no sin.

It is also interesting that in 2 Corinthians 5:21 the apostle Paul, the intellectual among the disciples, said of Christ, "Who knew no sin." Paul as the intellectual examined the mind. He said if one looked at the mind of Christ, there would not be found a single sin in His thoughts. In 1 John 3:5 the apostle John, the one that knew Him best could say, "In Him is no sin." John looked at Christ's motives, and said, "There is no motive of sin; He's pure throughout." Christ's disciple, Peter, was a man of action. He was always on the go. 1 Peter 2:22 says of Christ: "Who did no sin." Peter liked action, and he looked at Christ's actions and said, "There is no sin in what He did." The Bible is clear that He was conceived without sin; He knew no sin in His mind; in Him was no sin, and He never did sin. In Hebrews 4:15 it says He was "without sin." The word "without" means "foreign to." He was foreign to sin. Oh, He knew it existed, but it had no part with Him.
