The End is Joy
Millions once hopeless and helpless are today rejoicing in that wonderful salvation which God bestows upon all who put their trust in our blessed Lord. There is no earthly joy to be compared with the joy and peace which flows from a knowledge of sins forgiven and a life lived in sweet fellowship with the Redeemer.
"Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; He also is become my salvation. Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation" (Isaiah 12:2,3).
It is beyond the power of expression to explain the blessedness of "the end of the Lord," whether with one single individual of His suffering people, as Job (James 5:11) or with an elect nation (Israel), as in Isaiah 12.
Always the end is joy. Praise God this is so happily confirmed in the book of Psalms which tell out His ways through human sighs and tears and songs. But the songs always prevail at the end, and when we come to the last few Psalms (146-150) the tears have been wiped away (Rev. 21:3,4), and hallelujahs ring through them all with the very last word being "Hallelujah."
"Let all those that put their trust in Thee rejoice: Let them ever shout for joy, because Thou defendest them: let them also that love Thy name be joyful in Thee" (Psalm 5:11).
True joy is the delight and satisfaction of the soul in its union with God in Christ, as the greatest and highest good, rejoicing in what is to His honor and glory. Such is always the wondrous end of God's dealing in grace with man when his heart is cleansed and filled with Christ.
