The Gospel
Nearly twenty centuries have now passed since Jesus Christ, the Son of God, appeared among men, lived His perfect life, died His sacrificial death, rose from the dead, sent forth His apostles, and ascended to heaven. The Gospel message which He initiated, with its offer of salvation through His accomplished work, is still being preached and is as potent as ever.
It is not new but old, and we Christians often sing a hymn that begins,
"Tell me the old, old story
… Of Jesus and His love."
But because it is old, have you treated it with neglect? Have you never given it a hearing?
Many "modern" ideas have been pushed through the centuries. They often, however, prove to be but the re-assertion of old errors and deceits which do their mischievous work and then fade out. The Gospel abides and will abide until the second coming of our Lord.
The announcement it makes concerning the once crucified Jesus is this: That God has raised Him from the dead and showed Him openly to chosen witnesses and,
"He commanded us to preach unto the people and to testify that it is He which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick [living] and dead. To Him give all the prophets witness, that through His Name whosoever believeth in Him shall receive remission of sin" (Acts 10:42,43).
The offer that this proclamation makes comes directly to you. Forgiveness of sins, you need. Have you listened to the Gospel? Have you believed in the Lord Jesus Christ? If not before do so now.
