We enter the year—not knowing
   The things which shall us befall;
No vision is granted showing
   Those things, either great or small.

Not knowing the path, yet treading
   With step that is strong and brave;
The heart hath no cause for dreading,
   When He is so strong to save.

So now, as a new year breaketh,
   "Not knowing"—we yet may sing;
Since infinite good He maketh
   To rise out of every thing.
