Inventory
Another year has passed away - I pause to meditate.
'Tis well to think of lessons learned and inventory take.
The sorrows seemed too hard to bear, but all have worked for good.
Each pain has left a bit of gain, as Father meant it should.
I find myself more patient, more trustful and more still,
More deeply rooted in my God, more yielded to His will.
I face the coming New Year with a settled peace within
As another year of service for my Master I begin.
As signs about me witness that His coming draweth nigh
I hopefully anticipate that meeting in the sky.

The Gospel Telescope
Astronomy may indeed reveal something of the grandeur and magnificence of God's creation, but it can tell us nothing of His love and compassion for sinners. It is the Gospel which does that. It may trace the course of the Milky Way, but it cannot show to perishing souls the way of eternal life. It is the Gospel which does that. It may tell men how far the earth is from the sun; but it cannot tell the sinner who believes in Christ how far God has put his transgression from him. It may calculate the orbits of comets and the magnitude of the heavenly bodies; but it cannot explore or reveal the unsearchable riches of Christ, or tell us anything about the rising of the Bright Morning Star. It is the Gospel of God concerning His Son which does that.
