The Two Stages of Christ's Second Coming

At the first stage it will be the Lord Himself, the Saviour who will appear; at the second stage He will come as the Son of Man. (1 Thess. 4:16; Matt. 24:22-31).

At the first stage He will come to rapture the Church; at the second stage He will come to deliver Israel.

At the first stage He will come to the air; at the second stage He will come to the earth. (1 Thess. 4:17; Zech. 14:4).

At the first stage He will come for His saints; at the second stage He will come with His saints. (1 Thess. 4:15-17; 1 Thess. 3:13).

At the first stage He will appear without sin unto salvation; at the second stage He will appear to take vengeance on His enemies. (Heb. 9:28; 2 Thess. 1:7-9).

At the first stage His own will be taken to be forever with the Lord; at the second stage the ungodly will be taken for judgment. (1 Thess. 4:17; Matt. 24:32-41).

At the first stage He will come in the twinkling of an eye and secretly; at the second stage He will come publicly and every eye shall see Him. (1 Cor. 15:52; Rev. 1:7).

At the first stage He will raise those who have died in Him; at the second stage there will be no resurrection. (1 Thess. 4:16; Matt. 25:31-46).

At the first stage the trumpet of God will sound; at the second stage the angel's trumpet will sound (1 Thess. 4:16; Matt. 24:31).

At the first stage He will appear as the Morning Star; at the second stage He will appear as the Sun of Righteousness. (Rev. 22:16; Mal. 4:2).

Details of the first stage were given by special revelation; details of the second stage were the subject of prophecy. (1 Thess. 4:15; Isaiah 34, etc.).

The first stage is called the Day of Christ; the second stage is the Day of the Lord. (Phil. 1:6; Zech. 14:21-23).
