Whither Bound?

Life is aptly viewed as a voyage. The way is uncertain, for we know not what a day may bring forth. We are subject to the vicissitudes of our existence, rich and poor alike. Hazards, sorrows, sunshine and storm come to us all. Yet the way through time into eternity need not be trackless, comfortless or meaningless; rather, very much otherwise if God be our Father, if Christ be our Saviour and Lord, if the Comforter, who is the Holy Spirit dwell in us, if heaven and the house of the Lord be our goal, the eternal haven of the redeemed. Set your course for glory! Every vessel needs chart and compass! God and the Word of His grace are just that to every voyager through life.

But does this vessel, as you see her cleaving the water, merely do so as blindly driven forward of the wind? Or is she under command and is she on a destined course, planned, safe through shoal and rock to a purposed destination? Yes, surely! Let this be a parable to you, dear reader. The Bible says, "In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct they path." And again, "They that seek Me early shall find Me" (Proverbs 3:6; 8:17). Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners and thus His is a "great salvation." Comprehensive, too, in that He deals with our past, our present and our future. Once again we pose the question—Whither bound?
