A Broken Millstone
On a river bank lay a massive millstone. In its center was a large, square hole into which an acorn had fallen. Time had passed and a young oak now grew there. Many observed the sight and wondered what would happen to the oak from which no one could roll away the stone. Eventually the wonder took place—the stone lay broken.
Something greater happened on the resurrection morning. A heavy stone lay against the tomb in the garden. God spoke; the Lord of life rose from the dead.
There is joy in heaven and hope on earth. We, too, may live. For us now there is release from the millstone of death. Life with Christ means opportunity for growth. What surprises us, most of all, is that our lives begin to bear fruit. We become like trees planted by the rivers of water, the leaves of which are ever green and never wither.
