The Gates of Jerusalem
A brief Bible study from Nehemiah 3.
- The Sheep Gate, verse 1. Suggests SALVATION through the work of the Cross. The Good Shepherd gave His life for the Sheep (John 10:11).
- The Fish Gate, verse 3. Suggests SERVICE. Jesus says "Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men" (Matt. 4:19).
- The Old Gate, verse 6. Suggests WATCHFULNESS to follow in the old paths of divine truth (Jeremiah 6:16).
- The Valley Gate, verse 13. Suggests HUMILITY and PRAYER. The Lord Jesus is the Example for this. See Philippians 2:5-8.
- The Dung Gate, verse 14. Suggests SELF JUDGMENT. See 2 Corinthians 7:1; Colossians 3:4-17.
- The Gate of the Fountain, verse 15. Suggests THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT FOR WORSHIP AND SERVICE. See Philippians 3:3; Ephesians 5:18; Jude 20.
- The Water Gate, verse 26. Suggests THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD OF GOD. See 1 Peter 1:23; Psalm 119:9; Ephesians 5:25,26; John 17:17.
- The Horse Gate, verse 28. Suggests the WARFARE the Christian is called to. See Ephesians 6:10-18; 2 Timothy 2:3,4; Jude 3; 1 Timothy 6:12.
- The East Gate, verse 29. Suggests the SECOND COMING OF CHRIST. See Titus 2:13; Philippians 3:10,21; 1 John 3:1-3.
- The Gate Miphkad, verse 31. Miphkad means "Review" and suggests THE JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST for the review of the believer's works. See 2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Corinthians 3:11-15; 1 Corinthians 4:5.
