Biblical Examples
Hebrews 11 gives a list of Old Testament men and women who were blessed by faith. In the New Testament the apostle Paul stands out as one so blessed, and as one who read the message of the vision and ran to tell others. In Romans, Galatians and Hebrews he quotes Habakkuk 2:4 in relation to the themes of each book.
"THE JUST" is emphasized in Romans 1:17 where man's unrighteousness is declared and God's righteousness is revealed in the Gospel. The believer is made "just," or righteous in Christ on the principle of faith alone by grace.
"SHALL LIVE" is emphasized in Galatians 3:11 where Christ is set forth as the Rule of life for the believer, and not the law as false teachers were proclaiming. Faith in the Son of God is the principle upon which Christ lives in and through the believer (Gal. 2:20).
"BY FAITH" is emphasized in Hebrews 10:38 where the covenants of law and grace are contrasted. Not by works of man, but by the finished work of Christ on Calvary is the way opened for believing sinners to draw near to God.
