In contrast to the popular exhortation to "keep looking up" (from ourselves to Christ), we are to "keep looking down" (from our position in Him) upon the circumstances here on earth.

As we abide above in the Lord Jesus, looking upon His glory in the Word and fellowshiping with Him, the Holy Spirit increasingly produces His fruit: the life of the Lord Jesus in and through us. Our life source, our home, our position, is in Christ, in the light above. In this invulnerable position above we are developed, matured, and used for His glory in the darkness of this age. We are in the world, but not of it. Our life resources that are from above are more than adequate to meet the needs found in this sphere of death. The Spirit of God has but one standard for the growing believer: God's very best as it is in Christ Jesus. Nothing lower, nothing secondary. Anything less than that which He has given us in Christ risen is too low. In Him we are to abide above, and keep looking down.
