Faithful Unto the End!
In the city of Edinburgh there is a monument raised in memory of a little dog named Grey Friars' Bobby. In Grey Friars Cemetery near the gate is a stone with this inscription: "This monument was raised in loving memory of old John." At the bottom is an inscription there by American lovers of this man. The story is this: A shepherd came in from the country district of Edinburgh to the city. He brought with him a dog, a little Cairn terrier. The man died while he was in the city. He was buried in Grey Friars' churchyard. The little dog made his way in through the iron Rockwood gates and lay down on the grave of his master. He didn't lie there merely a week or a month or a year. He lay there for twelve years! Every day at one o'clock in Edinburgh they fired the gun in the castle. Everyone looked at his watch. The little dog would come out from the churchyard at that time each day and would receive a pie and a cup of water from one of the local bakers. Then the little dog would trot back to the grave again. He lay there until he died. In Edinburgh museum you can see the color plaid of that little dog that is called in Scotland, "Grey Friars' Bobby!"
If a little dog could show such love and fidelity to a dead master, how much greater love should God's children show to a living Master!
