Changes

In our short history of publishing the truth of God, many changes have occurred in the setting up of type for printing. At first we used a typewriter to cut a stencil to be used with a mimeograph for a four-page periodical called Moments For Youth. This was in 1947.

About 1955, we acquired two hand-fed printing presses and several cases of type. All copy for the periodical was set up letter by letter by hand. After printing, the type had to be distributed into the proper sections of the type cases to be ready for use again.

In 1960, a linotype was procured. What an advantage over the tedious laborious handsetting! But this called for a better press. A 10X15 Heidelberg press was purchased and this old faithful, named "Ebenezer I," served us well, even as it does today for occasional usage. Then in 1964 we acquired a Heidelberg cylinder press, "Ebenezer II," in order to print larger forms. For fifteen years these two presses turned out millions of pieces of literature from the linotype setup.

As the need for more literature grew, our attention was called to the advantage of offset printing. This necessitated a complete change over to all new equipment, including a photo typesetter which eliminated all handling of metal type. It used photographic paper and chemicals to produce copy to be pasted up, ready for the camera to make a film from which a plate was burned to be used on the offset press. It was during this span in July 1982 that the name of this publication was changed to Moments For You, giving it a wider circulation. But this typesetter which served us well for nine years became more trouble prone and eventually broke down. Parts were hard to get and service rose steadily in price.

Meanwhile, a new technique was being developed in the computer field which opened a vast horizon for printing. After a few years of development, Desktop Publishing has become a reality. A computer, monitor, scanner and laser printer, along with sophisticated software programs, enable the copy to be set up in a variety of typefaces, justified, hyphenated, corrected and pasted up in pages the exact size of the publication required, and then printed out on a paper ready for the camera. The versatility is amazing, to say the least, and this change has been a good one for MWTB. The current issue is a product of our new desktop publishing system, which we trust will help us meet the ever-increasing demand for the printed page.

However, in speaking of changes in certain fields of technology, we are made aware that all changes in the world have not been for the good. Sin is manifesting itself more and more in every realm of society. I do not need to elaborate on what is apparent to all, and alarming to even the men of this world who know not God nor His saving grace in Christ. Wars, suicides, immorality and increasing diseases accompanying this, show man in general to be changing for the worse. The spirit of antichrist prevails more and more in education, government and religion. All this indicates that the last days of God's grace are upon us, and His promised judgment of the world is at hand.

But let's direct our attention to the One who knows no change. In Heb. 1:10-12, we read words the Holy Spirit directs to the Son of God, our Lord Jesus Christ: "Thou Lord in the beginning hath laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of Thine hands; they shall perish; but THOU REMAINEST; and they shall wax old as doth a garment; and as a vesture shalt Thou fold them up, and they shall be changed; but THOU ART THE SAME, and Thy years shall not fail."

The believer shall be changed to be conformed to Christ's image when He comes to the air for His own. He shall change our bodies of humiliation to be "fashioned like unto His glorious body" (Phil. 3:20). This change will be the best of all. "We shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is" (1 John 3:2). This change will be forever!

Even now, the born again believer experiences a wonderful change in his practical life. The more he is occupied by faith with the glorified Lord as presented by the Holy Spirit in the Word of God, the more he is "changed into the same image from glory to glory" (2 Cor. 3:18).

Does my reader share in this wonderful change and glorious prospect? You may, if you accept Him now by faith as your own Saviour and Lord.
