No Need to Hurry

One who suffered from melancholy dreamed that he went to the abode of lost souls—hell! The devil and his cohorts were there devising means whereby they could best get the lost ones on earth to continue to reject God's offers of mercy through Christ. Proposed one, "Let's go to them and say, 'There is no God!'" Silence prevailed for a moment, and then one of the inhabitants of hell said, "We can never destroy them that way. 'The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.' Most men know that there is a supreme Being." Then another suggested, "Let's tell them there is no hell, that a man dies like a dog dies, and that there is no future punishment awaiting the wicked." "We can't get them that way," countered one. "Men know that vice and virtue cannot have the same destiny. Men do reap as they sow!" When it seemed that the conclave was to end in failure, there was a ringing cry, "I have found it! Go back to earth and tell them that there is a God, that there is a hell, and that the Bible is the Word of God. Then tell them that there is plenty of time in which to decide the question, 'Where will I spend eternity?' Tell them to put off the matter of their soul's salvation until some future time!" Then all hell became vibrant with ghoulish glee, for the devil and his emissaries knew that if the lost ones defer, or procrastinate, in the matter of being saved, they usually never decide for Christ.

Those people who expect salvation at the eleventh hour often die at 10:30.
