Eyes of the Lord
There is a popular belief abroad in the world today that man is not responsible to God, and therefore he is not subject to the standards of right or wrong that God has clearly made known in His Word. This idea is nothing new, for we read in Judges 17:6, "Every man did that which was right in his own eyes." However, as this denial of the claims of God grows bolder and seems to pervade more of society each day, we would do well to be reminded that "the eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good" (Proverbs 15:3; 5:21). His eyes are "as a flame of fire" (Revelation 2:18), and "neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do" (Hebrews 4:13).
Not only is the Lord looking at all the ways of man, but "His eyes behold, His eyelids try, the children of men" (Psalm 11:4). It is recorded in the Scriptures that certain persons "did that which is right in the sight of the Lord," and of others that they "did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord." He whose eyes see the motives of man's ways is the very One to whom "every knee shall bow" (Romans 14:11) and "every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (Philippians 2:10,11).
The idea that man is not accountable to God is simply not true, no matter how plausible it may seem to the heart of man. Everything one does is seen by Him and judged by Him to be either "right" or "wrong." "Walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment" (Ecclesiastes 11:9).
God's Word alone is the abiding authority in all things. "Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and de-part from evil" (Proverbs 3:7). Come to Jesus Christ as a repentant sinner and He will forgive every "wrong" of your life (Ephesians 1:6,7), and make you "right" in the eyes of God through trusting in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21).
