Craving Enjoyment of God's Things
Do we, as children of God through faith in Christ, desire a deeper knowledge of God's Word and Himself? Are we craving for a more real enjoyment of God's things? Do we want more spiritual wisdom and understanding? The way is plain. We must be separated from that which is evil.
This call includes separation from the evils of man's religion—from what man has made, what man has built up, the traditions and commandments of men, from all which is contrary to God's Word and His will. We must take a positive stand and dare to stand alone, casting ourselves upon a faithful Lord.
We must "cease to do evil" (Isaiah 1:16) and then we can "learn to do well" (Isaiah 1:17). The lack of power and enjoyment, the indifference of which we are so often conscious, the little true heart-knowledge we possess of the things of the Lord, the little real communion with Himself is the result of being conformed to this world. Surely in these closing days, God calls all His people to separation from that which is evil, that we might experience true enjoyment and fellowship with Himself.—A.C. Gaebelein
"Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. … By the fear of the Lord men depart from evil" (2 Timothy 2:19; Proverbs 16:6).
"Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all" (1 Timothy 4:15).
Meditation removes the veil from the truth. Paul exhorts us to consider and ponder the Word with a spiritual magnifying glass. Have we cultivated this practice? We live in a day of many conveniences, yet we find so little time to sit quietly and meditate over the Scriptures. The result of this is manifested by our own weakness and lack of power with God and with men. Our advancement will appear unto all, if we meditate on the Scriptures. May we be able to say, "Thy Words were found, and I did eat them; and Thy Word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart" (Jeremiah 15:16). —Robert E. Surgenor
The man who makes the best progress in the Christian life is the one who is determined to do what the Bible says, even if he doesn't see anyone else doing it. The Scriptures open up their treasures most readily to the obedient heart. —William MacDonald
The kind of testimony that is really needed is that of a believer turning his back upon everything in the world, and looking for no satisfaction in what it has to offer. —W.T. Turpin
