Foreword to the 2008 Scripture Almanac

Walking is a good way to exercise and keep the body fit. Maybe that is the reason the Bible mentions the walk so frequently, because anyone who walks according to the truths of the Word of God will be a strong, healthy child of God.

The main purpose of the Scripture Almanac is to get everyone to read the Bible and also to know its Author. We all need to hear the voice of God, and we do this by reading God's Holy Word.

If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and have trusted Him as your personal Saviour, you need God's Word to feed your soul and keep your feet walking in a manner pleasing to God.

Should the reader be an unbeliever, one who is not a child of God and walks to please himself—you need to hear God's voice calling you to salvation through the loving sacrifice of Christ on Calvary's cross. There He paid the full price for your every sin that by His death you might live with Him forever. As you read the Bible, God's Word will reveal all these things for your acceptance by faith, and you can become a new person in Christ with a desire to walk to please God.

We draw your attention to the Scripture verses at the top of the twelve calendar pages—each having to do with the WALK. The word walk basically means how we conduct ourselves and make use of our lives.

As we know, it requires decision and dedication to get out of our chair and go for a healthy walk. The same is true as to our spiritual walk. Just knowing the doctrines and truths of how God desires us to walk does not automatically translate into a walk pleasing to God. It requires decision—choosing to obey the dictates of God's Word; dedication—making the necessary sacrifices in relation to self and time; discipline—refusing every hindrance to a faithful, daily walk; and devotion—loving the Lord more than anyone or anything else, desiring to be in and walk in His company.

The Psalmist David prayed, "Hold up my goings in Thy paths, that my footsteps slip not" (17:5). The publisher's prayer is that each user of the 2008 Scripture Almanac will be able to say:

Dear Lord, of Thee I pray;
To see Thee more clearly,
To love Thee more dearly,
To walk with Thee more nearly.
