"This Water" Cannot Satisfy

Praise the Lord for saints of God who, like the woman at the well, made a decision to find their satisfaction in the Water that God gives rather than in "this water" of the world (John 4:13,14). Such have come to know the gift of God and Who it is, and thus experience the joy and deep satisfaction that cannot be experienced in anything the world has to offer. Let us not make the mistake of looking for satisfaction in "this water." Not money, not health, not friends, not position, not a husband or a wife, not even service for Christ will satisfy. Only Christ Himself can truly satisfy the thirsting of the soul.

Do you believe that? You suppose that it may be so for someone more "spiritual," but since you have not experienced it for yourself, you are not sure. The reason you doubt is because you continue to try to fill your thirst with "this water." You doubt God when He says, "My yoke is easy, and My burden is light" because the yoke you have put around your neck is nearly killing you. No, the answer is not more of the things this world has to offer, not more service for Christ, not more self-denial or mortification of the flesh. The answer is more of Christ Himself.

When was the last time you came away from your time of Bible reading and prayer knowing that you have been fed just what you needed; that with the eyes of your soul you have seen Jesus and He has satisfied your thirst with Living Water? Does your heart cry, "I'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold … He's all that my hungering spirit needs"? If not, then deliberately "Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace." If mixed with faith, that will cause you to sing without ceasing, "Hallelujah! I have found Him whom my soul so long has craved—Jesus!"
